FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Ro2 Art is pleased to welcome artist Val Curry for his solo exhibition, Enfolding – a series of paintings and sculptures that represent Curry’s research into the field of Bio Art. The show will be running from October 15 through November 12 at Ro2 Art Gallery, located at 1501 S. Ervay Street in The Cedars Neighborhood of Dallas. An opening reception will be held Sunday, October 16, from 7 to 10 pm.
ARTIST BIO:
Val Curry grew up amidst the cornfields of rural Illinois in an Intentional Community. This upbringing surrounded him with strong social cohesion, teamwork and an alternative lifestyle and greatly impacted his core values and art-making.
Curry studied under such notable artists such as Randall Garrett, Josephine Durkin and the late Michael Miller. In 2012, he was an artist-in-residence at UT Dallas’ CentralTrak. He has a BFA in Sculpture from Texas A&M University, Commerce and received his MFA from the University of Texas, Dallas in the Arts and Technology program. Curry is an Adjunct Professor at Eastfield College.
Val Curry has exhibited locally and nationally since 2004. Exhibitions include performance art pieces with Plush Gallery in Williamsburg, New York and Dallas as well as various group exhibitions in Chicago, Houston and the Dallas area. Most recently, he exhibited One Day a collaborative exhibition with Robert David Reedy at Ro2 Art Downtown in collaboration with MAP 2013. The works from One Day continued to be featured in the exhibition Objective Strategies, at Dallas’ El Centro College and are included in the MAP 2013 Catalogue, published this year. Val Curry is represented in Dallas by Ro2 Art.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
Enfolding represents my research into the burgeoning field of Bio Art. The sculptures and paintings in this series are meditations. Existing somewhere between absurdity and scientific discourse, they act as analogies to the cross disciplinarian work and research taking place in the fields of art and science. Concepts for this began as unconscious intuitive studies and sculptures that I created in 2008. This line of inquiry has become an obsession and platform that has allowed me to connect with scientists in ways that I never imagined.
