about the artist
My art begins with the inner belief that there are unexplored territories of color, light and textures in nature. My journey becomes an act of discovery: the fluid unveiling of unexpected, magical and provocative colors and patterns that emerge from nature. My fascination with this almost microscopic view of objects that surround us begins with hours of examination of the changing shapes, patterns and colors that take place as light, shade, moisture and wind move through them on any given day. As I get closer to nature, both physically with the lens of a camera, and figuratively as an act of respect and admiration, a world emerges that has become my visual territory. It is where images are born and, thus, become sensual and intriguing.
- Sibylle Bauer, 2012
As a photographer, Sibylle Bauer continues her quest to reveal to viewers the minuscule details that fabrics, walls, tiles, and an array of materials hide in their shadows and textures. These details emerge from the objects themselves, as well as from the placement and juxtaposition that often randomly unites them. Through these moments in time and light, she invites us into a universe that so often remains locked away, unseen, and taken for granted in passing glances. Through the purity of light and the acuity of the photographer the beauty that resides on the surface of the quotidian, simple sights is captured and unveiled.
