artist statement
Sara Cardona uses the analog process of cut-and-paste collage in the tradition of early twentieth century assemblage and in a nod to the editing process of film. The amorphous forms created are inspired by the idea of distributive networks in biology that multiply and migrate, much like human networks. The forms are static, but suggest movement, and are a hybrid of object and photograph. They are constructed from the detritus of human activity, and like trace elements, these objects are echoes of the human presence, devolving into baroque forms.
