Sara Cardona
Sara Cardona was born in Mexico City. She lives and works in Dallas, TX and received her MFA from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. Cardona is also a graduate of the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture residency program in Maine, and a past recipient of the Dallas Museum of Art Kimbrough Award. Her work has been included in exhibitions at the Dallas Center for Contemporary Art, The Jones Center in Austin, Gescheidle Gallery in Chicago and abroad.
Artist Statement Sara Cardona uses the analog process of cut-and-paste collage in the tradition of early twentieth century assemblage and in a nod to the editing process of film. The amorphous forms created are inspired by the idea of distributive networks in biology that multiply and migrate, much like human networks. The forms are static, but suggest movement, and are a hybrid of object and photograph. They are constructed from the detritus of human activity, and like trace elements, these objects are echoes of the human presence, devolving into baroque forms. CV Born in Mexico City, D.F.
