My love for wood goes back as far as I can remember. From whittling sticks with my dad’s pocket knife, to making furniture, to the highly refined finishing of local hardwoods, there has always been an appreciation for wood. Not just wood working, but even the striking beauty of untouched trees and logs. The grain, the smell, the color and shape are just a few of the fascinating elements found in the simplest of forms. Some of God's finest artwork is inside of a tree, waiting to be found and uncovered. Herein is the process of elegant elimination, removing just enough to let the beauty of the wood shine through. Where the cutting stops is equally as important as where it begins. As much time is spent in evaluating the untouched log, as cutting it. Most of the trees I use were destined for the burn pile and have been re-purposed to form sculptures and vessels. Every piece is absolutely unique, with the individual characters of the wood taking preeminence, where grain and shape beautifully collide. Roger England Greenville, Texas
