Rachel Fischer
Bio
Rachel Fischer is a multi-media artist currently residing in Denton Texas. She earned her MFA at the University of North Texas, and has shown in exhibitions across Texas and nationally. In 2014 she was recipient of the Dallas Museum of Art’s, Arch and Anne Giles Kimbrough Fund, and in 2015 she received a Nasher Artist Microgrant for her work as co-founder of Brick Haus Collective. Most recently she was selected for the 2016 West issue of New American Paintings, Issue # 126. Artist Statement I am as interested in touch as I am in sight. Sometimes this refers to a specific memory, like the observation of the curve of a snails shell, other times it is as direct, and immediate, as the satisfaction of feeling slick plastic. The objects and images that I create serve as pictograms for these transient moments of recognition, documenting the world around me. There is a juncture where this collection of scraps, both physical and fleeting, comes together in a new and seamless identity. In the end, what I am searching for is a universal image, not beholden to its past and maybe just outside the present. |
