About Alison Jardine
Born and educated in Yorkshire and London, England, Alison Jardine arrived with her family in Texas in 2003, where she established herself as a professional artist. Jardine's work has been included in numerous local and national juried competitions, and is in collections worldwide. Alison Jardine enjoys writing, and has contributed to arts publications, as well as worked as an art instructor in public schools.
Artist Statement
PixelNation grew from my interest in digital technology, on which so much of our memories and lives are stored. The back-lit computer or TV screen offers intriguing possibilities for me, as exploring and the physical and emotive phenomenon of light has always been at the core of my impulse to create art.
In 2011, I have used the motif of the pixel, representing a core fragment of new culture, to meld traditional oil painting with digital. My commitment to creating a daily drawing on my iPad for 365 days has, perhaps inevitably, influenced my oil paintings, with the two approaches mixing into new ideas, forms and presentations.
My process begins with location-based photographs and sketches, or photographs from my own family and past, that I then digitally manipulate, collage and paint with. These images might form the basis for a painting or monotype, or be realized as a print.
Nature is a repeating theme in all my work, and this is rooted in the ancient forests and trees of Yorkshire, and the wide-open wilderness of the Moors, whose stories and dramas forged my visual and artistic identity as I grew. My compositions are stage sets of remembrance of events that happened there, arenas for the emotive and narrative stories of the viewer as well as the artist.
