Ro2 Art is proud to present Outside Is My Inside, a solo exhibition featuring new works by artist Patricia Rodriguez. The show has been extended to June 5, 2018. There will be an opening reception held Thursday, May 3, from 6-8pm at the Magnolia Theatre located at 3699 McKinney Avenue in Dallas’ West Village District.

In Patricia Rodriguez’s creative exploration, surreal and complex forms of nature are vividly brought to life. Her newest body of work carries a gestural abstraction not found in her earlier work, symbolizing nature’s wild response to the innate human desire for order. By embracing this natural energy in her paintings, Rodriguez encourages viewers to connect to the movement of their environment and examine their own “outside worlds.”

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Patricia Rodriguez is a professional artist and muralist based in Dallas, Texas. An Oak Cliff native, she studied Painting and Design at Mountain View College after graduating from Booker T. Washington (Arts Magnet) and has since shown at the Dallas Museum of Art, where she previously worked, as well as various galleries and venues including: Ro2 Art (Dallas), SITE: BROOKLYN (New York), Bedford Gallery (California), Lemieux Galleries (New Orleans), Kirk Hopper Gallery (Dallas), African American Museum, WAAS Gallery, Gravelmouth Gallery (San Antonio), Baylor Health Services Library, Luminarte Gallery, NRG (Los Angeles), Keller Town Hall, Start Gallery Dallas, Rising Gallery, The Janette Kennedy Gallery, Kettle Art Gallery, Avenue Arts Venue, Gallery at Midtown, Orisons Fine Art, The Ice House, BANK ONE, Bath House Cultural Center and Art Centric in the Design District. She has worked on projects locally with Red Bull, Capital One, and SXSW, and internationally at the Water Tower Gallery (Israel).

ARTIST STATEMENT
Patricia’s personal painting process involves the use of acrylic paints and spray paint in a technique which "carves" out shapes and space from the negative space. Her approach to painting is organic and spontaneous with no sketches or drawing done beforehand. The painting evolves naturally on it's own much like the plant life she draws inspiration from. Alien landscapes and plant formations are the theme of her latest creations. Everything is handpainted in many layers with no use of stencils, only brushes.

“This body of work is an exploration of nature as a form of energy. Chaos and elegance coexist as these surreal plant forms take on different arrangements to express the pure energy of life. The work is driven by color and movement, an invitation to look closely at your reality and surroundings.”
