Mike Kury

Picture
Michael Kury, Recline, 2010
Michael Kury, 1959-2010

Originally from Southern California, Mike Kury lived and worked just North of Dallas, Texas, where he shared a studio with fellow artist and friend, Arlene Cason.

Kury used various media, such as bronze, cast paper, metal, plasters, resins and rubber to create his figurative, surreal, social and pop art sculptures.

Mike was a member of SMAACC, the Texas Sculpture Association, Craftsmen’s Guild of Mississippi and Ghost Town Art Collective. His work has been shown in numerous invitational and group shows.

For Kury's final series of work, the artist achieved his goal in finding new ways of presenting the female form in minimal, modern sculpture.  By
experimenting with traditionally industrial materials, a new mixture of industrialism, surrealism and classicism result in works that are visually sensual, with strong design and clean lines.
