Midge Lynn: Atmospheres
August 10, 2024- September 14, 2024
Press Release
In her latest exhibition, Midge Lynn invites us to journey through layers of reality, from the microscopic to the global with her captivating paintings of birds and innovative works on reimagined globes. Lynn’s globes are often split in half by a horizon line that not only demarcates the sky from the land but also serves as a boundary between the familiar and the fantastical. Her paintings, infused with elements of surrealism, shift seamlessly between photorealistic depictions and absurd, whimsical scenes. This interplay creates a sense of motion and suspense, as viewers are drawn into a narrative where the unexpected is always on the brink of revealing itself. Like a child's cat's cradle morphing into a telephone wire adorned with birds, Lynn’s lines and forms flow effortlessly, inviting viewers to uncover hidden motifs and themes woven throughout her pieces. Birds, as recurring symbols in her work, embody the themes of expansion and the broadening of perspectives. These transient beings highlight the ephemeral nature of life and the infinite possibilities that lie beyond our immediate perception. The atmospheric quality of her art transports viewers into different realms while the physical nature of her globes encourage visitors to navigate around her globes to fully grasp their complexity. Midge Lynn’s exhibition is a testament to her mastery in merging diverse styles and themes, creating art that is both observational and transportive.
