Mick Burson
Mick Burson is a multidisciplinary artist originally from Waco Tx, but currently living and working out of Denton Tx. His work shifts between building sculptural paintings and creating large-scale public art. Using wood and found objects in his sculptural paintings and exterior latex and spray paint in his public work, he aims to empower the viewer through the use of these common materials.
Artist Statement
My work recognizes the connections and coincidences that are made through life and people. The work reflects the interactions and connections made during the collective process for the piece. I think recognition of these moments becomes a catalyst of kismet in my own life. Each individual painting has the freedom to be its own, while being part of a larger series due to the process involved while finding materials. The purpose of each painting is not predetermined. The period of time in which the painting is made in correlation to my life is what defines purpose. The work does not serve as a means to a destination; it is just an appreciation of life, coincidence, and circumstance.
