ABOUT THE ARTIST

Matthew Jones received his MFA in 2018 from the University of Dallas. He has taught for TCU and TCC as an adjunct and was represented by Beaudry Gallery and Framing from 2018 - 2020. His work has been exhibited in 50 group shows and 5 solo shows with notable, local venues including: Goldmark Cultural Center, Oak Cliff Cultural Center, Arts Fort Worth, Mckinney Performing Arts Center, and the Irving Arts Center.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My paintings seek to encapsulate how these locations feel. They possess a tension: many of them are littered and all of them are coarse. Which is why I have brought them to your attention. Through composition and texture these viewpoints become immersive entry points into the landscape, inviting you to take part in the journeys I’ve had. I want to know what you think of these environments. Many of them are parks that were set aside for the enjoyment of the community. What do you feel stepping into them?
