Kevin Parmer

​I focused on painting and drawing in collage, and upon graduating I moved back to Dallas and focused on graphic design. I worked for a museum for 23 years as the Exhibitions Graphic Designer. While working as a graphic designer I became more interested in collage, since my job required a lot of images combined with text, carefully placed as a composition. After years of making collages I wanted to get back to painting, on a smaller scale, and using water based paints, such as watercolor and gouache. The meticulousness of making collages by hand led me to want to make small paintings that were much looser and expressive. I have also dabbled with ink drawings on small pads of paper, but I always find myself happier making paintings on paper with really no forethought. The small paintings on paper are influenced by nature, geometry, decay, and symbolism that occur to me in dreams. The use of the geometric “veils” or “grids” has always been prominent. In some pieces they are symbolic as sort of neural networks (beneficial), and other times as “veils” or “blockades” that confuse visual interpretation. Mystery in art has always been fascinating to me.
