(Dallas) Ro2 Art is proud to present a solo exhibition entitled, Wrong Turns and Right Angles by Joshua Dodson. Working at the intersection of geometric abstraction and urban visual culture, Dodson constructs shaped woodworks that project from the wall with optical intensity and architectural rigor. These works draw from the built environment—its edges, its ruptures, its unexpected harmonies—channeling both the order of modernist design and the improvisational logic of the street. Color becomes structural here, guiding the eye through fractures and collisions that resist easy resolution. In Dodson’s hands, painting sheds its frame and becomes a navigational act—an invitation to get lost, double back, and arrive somewhere utterly new.

About the Artist
|
Dallas-based contemporary artist Joshua Dodson works in painting, murals, and sculpture design. His work focuses on the relationships between form and color through systems of structural abstraction. Heavily influenced by urban letter forms within graffiti, design, while building upon the nuances of constructivism, his use of gradients, shadows, and lighting makes his paintings seem dimensional giving the works their relief. Through carefully planned compositions, Joshua’s paintings go beyond the boundaries of canvas and instead find themselves placed within intricately shaped wood panels which serve as vehicles to display shape and color in a near mechanical sense. Brilliant colors overlap each other, gradients dance into shadows and give each piece a sense of motion. When placed together, a series of paintings communicate a physical dialogue between each other informing the object’s individuality. His mural practice has allowed him to take influence from the studio, transform large spaces, and share his work with the public. with companies and clients such as Dallas Independent School District, Uptown Dallas, 5G Architecture, Ink + Oro Design, Westdale Properties, and most notably his involvement with immersive art giant Meow Wolf and its fifth permanent exhibit “The Real Unreal” located in Grapevine, Texas. Joshua’s fine art is held by Ro2 Art Galleries of Dallas, J.P. Morgan Chase Permanent Art Collection, UT Southwestern Medical Center of Dallas, and others.
