ABOUT THE ARTIST

Interdisciplinary emerging artist, Hannah Elizabeth Baskin, is a native to west Texas and discovered her passion for art at a young age. Immersed in her drawings for hours on end, she realized the transformative power of creativity. She is currently pursuing her BFA at the University of North Texas and has recently completed a residency at the New York Academy of Art and plans to pursue her MFA in the next few years. Through her work, she explores the depths of the human experience, delving into internal dialogues and emotions that define our humanity. She embraces a range of mediums including but not limited to oil painting, charcoal, sculpture, art performance and installations. Hannah’s talent has been recognized through awards, including winning “Best in Show” with an exhibition with Envision Arts as well as receiving a full-ride scholarship to the New York Academy of Art Summer Residency based on her merit. Her artworks have been featured in significant exhibitions and events, including an art performance at the Dallas Contemporary. Driven by personal experiences, she creates art by which she confronts and addresses the challenges insecurities and complexities that shaped her life, inviting viewers to engage in their own self-discovery, to empower individuals to embrace their own authenticity and meaningful connections. As she continues to create, she seeks to evolve her work into even more expressive, emotive, and experiential forms.

ARTIST STATEMENT
|
My art emerges from the depths of conflicting internal dialogues and the mundane everyday life experiences. I strive to capture the essence of the human experience, revealing the intricacies and subtleties of our emotional landscapes. Drawing inspirations from the expressionist movement and contemporary works that challenge societal norms, I explore themes of authenticity and the rawness of emotion. Using saturated colors, contrasting textures, and unconventional compositions, my artwork becomes a visual manifestations of the inner workings of the human psyche. Experimentation is integral to my artistic process, as I want to continually learn and grow as I create, as well as constantly push the boundaries of my chosen mediums. By engaging in a continuous dialogue with the creative process, I strive to strike a delicate balance between technical skill and the emotive power of my work, revealing glimpses of expertise within the raw and organic nature of my own artistic expression. As an artist, my ultimate goal is to contribute to the broader cultural conversation by challenging societal norms and inviting individuals to embrace their own authenticity, to create a space where the human experience is celebrated and where individuals feel empowered to connect with one another on a deeper level. I am continually learning, exploring, and creating from that space. Life and all its disparities are constantly on my mind while I am creating.
