FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Ro2 Art is pleased to present For Real, pairing two Texas-based contemporary realist painters, Sarah Atlee and James Zamora. The opening reception will take place Saturday, February 7 from 7 to 10pm, with the show running through March 8, 2015. Both artists will be in attendance at the opening reception. For Real will be on view at Ro2 Art Downtown, located at 110 N. Akard Street, in the historic Kirby Building of Downtown Dallas.

Working from plate to palette, Sarah Atlee delights viewers with colorful and creative food and drink pairings, exquisitely painted on canvas using surrounding patterns and wild tablescapes. In contrast, James Zamora aims to portray the technical complexities of everyday life, working to reflect through painting, the characteristics of visual relationships recorded by our eyes during encounters with the material world -- and the subconscious imprints such experiences bring.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Sarah Atlee is an Austin, Texas based painter focusing on contemporary still life and abstract paintings. A self-described “paint-slinging, steak-chewing, kombucha-sipping, sushi-chomping, yoga-pantsing, sketchbook-doodling visual artist,” Sarah was born in Norman, Oklahoma and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she remained until receiving her Bachelors of Fine Art in Painting at the University of New Mexico. In 2006, Sarah received her Masters of Fine Arts from the Rochester Institute of Technology. After graduating she returned to Oklahoma where she became immersed in the regional art scene. Mounting numerous solo exhibitions and being invited to participate in several invitational exhibitions and juried shows. This is her first solo exhibition since relocating to Texas.

James Zamora was raised in the North Texas town of Graham. He completed his Bachelors of Fine Art in Painting at the University of North Texas in 2010. He has been included in several important juried exhibitions, attained numerous awards, and was recently featured in New American Paintings Vol. 114. In May, 2015, James will receive his Masters of Fine Art in painting from Texas Women's University, where he is currently teaching. A realist painter who is attracted to the technical complexity of everyday life, his paintings reflect characteristics from the visual relationships our eyes record to the subtleties of the subconscious. Through his still life and aisle paintings James aims to bring out the beauty and majesty of day-to-day life.
