Ethereal, atmospheric, hypnotic, and even healing have all been used to describe the transcendent experience that is the art of Fannie Brito. Through the sensuous blending of color, text, imagery, and emotions an internal dialogue of abstract expression between artist and media invites the viewer to see the world through the prism of Brito’s soul. A process that begins with free thought journaling on a blank canvas evolves through the layering and subtraction of raw pigments, oils, and acrylics until the words are obscured and the subconscious revealed - a place where language and emotion become color and light.
Fannie Brito is an artist and a Medical Doctor with a degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. She also studied History of Art and French in Montreaux, Switzerland. Dr. Brito was born in Carmel, California and grew up with three brothers in Caracas, Venezuela, where her parents were avid art patrons. In 1990, Fannie moved to Dallas to raise her three children. Ten years later, she decided to follow her passion for art, leaving the health field to study painting and photography. An Abstract Expressionist, Fannie has been influenced by the work of Alirio Palacios, Mark Rothko, Robert Rauschenberg, Marc Chagall, and Anselm Kiefer. Fannie is an active member of the Dallas arts community and has exhibited her work in more than 90 juried shows. She was selected for the inaugural exhibition of the Latino Cultural Center and at the African American Museum, both in Dallas. Her studio is in Deep Ellum’s Continental Gin Building. Fannie has taught painting, photography, and 3-D design and she has a certification in Expressive Art Therapy. Fannie’s work can be found in private collections in Venezuela, Mexico, the Carribean, Europe, and throughout the United States. |
