ABOUT THE ARTIST
Emily Brooks Millar is a visual artist based in Glasgow, Scotland, whose work primarily focuses on British and American political issues. A dark sense of humour and satire are present throughout her work, where an illustrative style sheds light on complex topics. Through paint and animation, her pieces are underpinned by her background in Oral History. As winner of the Neil Rafeek Prize (2022), she translates extensive interviewee discussions into creations for mass audiences. She has recently exhibited in London and Paris, with an upcoming solo show in Vienna. Over the last two years, she has worked extensively with brands such as BBC, Netflix and Image Comics. Alongside this, she is heavily inspired by current internet culture, identity and user interaction. Projecting a voice for the voiceless is always her main objective. The work takes flight from both extensive interviews and the nuances of everyday conversation. Comedy, albeit dark, is essential in opening a dialogue with the audience, allowing divisive and unifying opinions to emerge. Animals appear often due to the satirical nature of the pieces, projecting cartoon-like violence and parallels with humankind.

This collection sheds light on the story of both Walter the lesser heard experiences of his Wife.
