Douglas Land
Artist Statement
If I was not an artist then I would be a Naturalist. I would creep across the Moors, chasing blue winged butterflies can catching them so that I could notate any biological function or abnormalities. Fungi, flowers, fish and fleas, they each have some relevance in form and function. It is this fascination with the natural world that continues to provide a sense of discovery in my own art works. Yet at the same time, mankind’s creations equally captivate. From microprocessors, to light emitting diodes, the wires that enables our technology to function is but cellular biology in another form. The bridging of these two worlds, even if on an aesthetic level, is what drives my curiosity to make more art.
