ARTIST STATEMENT

My studio practice studies how our perceptions of value are created. I challenge the viewer to compare the emotional, fiscal, decorative and utilitarian worth of objects. As a latinx artist I balance a life between two cultures, American and Brazilian. This duality has influenced my own perception of value. I use appropriated commercial objects and themes from American and Brazilian culture to express my feelings towards value, cultural identity and authorship. My work questions the constant production and reproduction of the global market by championing women's work, counterfeit objects, and the “homemade”. I position my work within a historic continuum of artists who utilize appropriation, conceptual, and genre art.
