My studio practice is very intuitive. Creating paintings by making a mark and responding to that mark. This interaction of doing, and then responding is very exciting and challenging. This, in turn, causes me to think and engage with each piece differently. Like a game of chess, it feels natural and keeps me mentally involved with the work.
As an artist, I am interested in exploring the different elements of abstract painting—mark making, texture, color and space. Using various painting tools, I am able to build up a space with a wide variety of marks. Creating a multilayer environment for the marks to live and interact with one another. By using different textures and thicknesses of paint I am delving into the physically nature of paint, using real space with real depth and real shadows contrasted by illusionistic space. This interaction between three-dimensional and two-dimensional, real space verse illusionistic space, is the main focus of the paintings.
