Carol Ivey

A native of North Texas, Carol Ivey completed her study of painting in Austin at the University of Texas. She was active in Austin exhibiting and collaborating with other visual artists, as well as choreographers and composers through the 1980's. She left Austin in 1990 for the Pacific Northwest, where she began a serious interest in gardening while continuing to exhibit and develop new work. Returning to Texas eight years later she chose to live in Fort Worth.

Carol has been an active member of the Fort Worth art community serving on the Exhibition Advisor Panel of the Fort Worth Community Art Center and the Steering Committee of EASL. She has taught through TCU Extended Education and now teaches from her studio. In 2016 she taught a painting workshop in Tuscany.

Her many exhibition credits include the Amarillo Art Museum, Laguna Gloria Art Museum, Aspen Art Museum, Albuquerque Museum and the Grace Museum. Corporate collections include Fidelity Investments, Frito-Lay, Baylor All Saints Medical Center, and Botanical Research Institute of Texas.

Statement
The collected objects and plant materials in my studio all have their histories. I make choices in arranging and lighting these things, maybe by a juxtaposition of pairings or isolation, by instinct, by what feels right. It's during the painting process that I meditate on the meaning and try to find words to fit what may be going on in the painting. Finding the right words for each painting is difficult and most paintings have several titles. I don't think of myself as a realist painter, but more as a surrealist painter, or even an abstractionist.
