Bill Bridges
What does an idea look like? I construct objects and experiences that show the possible answers to this question with minimal refinement or editing. This isn't an effort placed upon a created object as an idea or a final product, rather how memory, self, spirit and creative acts inform how an idea- ephemeral and invisible- actually "looks." I prefer materials which are most accessible; as a result, I'm persistent in gathering materials, objects and tools from my surroundings. The effects are two-fold: first, the gathering provides links to my subconscious as visual association; second, the accumulation of said items will then inform the making by way of the limitations they may have. This practice enables capturing a fleeting thought with whatever is around; I'm physically showing the transient nature of a spontaneous moment from life. In doing so, I'm intentionally eschewing my own judgments in favor of my value of the subconscious; this affords my work a humble naivety, making it less confrontational and deserving of further inquiry. The ideas themselves are subjects, or models, and they provide the content of the final products.
