Barbara Horlander

Artsy Page
Barbara Horlander is currently a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Painting candidate at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. In 2015 she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she graduated with highest distinction. In 1988 she received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Fine Art at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California.

Horlander spent twenty years working in various roles in Retail Visual Merchandising and Display where she honed her skills in the design and production of window displays, prop building, and the execution of large scale fashion runways and major installations.

Her latest work reflects her interest in materials, building, and the idea of beauty in imperfection. Using deliberately chosen materials and techniques, she constructs objects with a nod to the handcrafted. Combining both high and low materials such as fur, leather, and plywood, hard and soft textures are revealed which titillate our senses, provoking a desire to touch. This exchange of time and unspoken conversation rouses a relationship between maker and beholder.
