Alvaro Perez
Alvaro Perez is an artist and art educator residing in Laredo, Texas where he serves as an art instructor at Laredo Community College. He received an MFA in painting from Texas Christian University in 2007 and still holds close ties to the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
His current work includes intricate, highly elaborate drawings, paintings, and small sculptures detailing the growing irrationality of an ever maddening world. Layered meanings, dry humor, and not so subtle wordplay all labor towards this end, often intended to misdirect the viewer. Alvaro Perez says this of his latest body of work:
“Art in its ever vital role as the great conveyor of that which cannot be said with words holds the potential to clarify, delineate, and illuminate...or in this case to confuse, complicate, garble, and distort.”
