Aimee Cardoso

Bio
Aimee Cardoso (b. 1990, Texas) is a painter documenting the warmth of domestic life. Her techniques reference old masters while investigating contemporary notions of sanctuary found within familiar objects and domestic spaces. She received her Bachelor’s in Studio Art from Messiah College in 2013 and has since returned to the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Currently, Cardoso works at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and is the Executive Director of Art Tooth, a nonprofit she co-founded that works to foster a healthy regional arts economy, and solidifying Fort Worth's reputation as an art destination. In her spare time, Aimee loves to study art history, read a good mystery novel, and throw weights around at Crossfit.
Artist Statement
“Employing traditional techniques in the genre of still life painting, my paintings conjure notions of intimacy on both personal and universal levels. The images I create are poetically rendered yet narratively vague, linking personal fragments of my memories to the universal act of finding sanctuary within domestic spaces. Each still life is covered in a way to suggest a form underneath, where I find aesthetic pleasure in the way fabric weaves in and out of itself. The fabrics selected each hold specific memories and a familiarity which bring comfort into the creation process.”
