The exhibition will begin July 7th and run through August 20th, 2014. The exhibition will take place at Ro2 Art's exhibit space in Addison, TX at the Gallery at Visit Addison! An opening reception will be held Friday, July 18, from 6 to 9pm.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS:
Chris Bramel is a recent graduate of Texas Christian University, in Fort Worth, Texas, where he recently earned his Bachelors of Fine Arts, with a concentration in photography. At just 23 years old, Chris has recently completed a 10,000 mile trek across the the Western United States, visiting twelve states, 11 national parks, and driving "more backwoods highways than you could shake a stick at," all in an effort to find new perspectives as an artist. Through this journey, the artist arrived home with thousands of images that would be intertwined and formatted into six-sided, 360 degree panoramic photographs. The hexagon, an object of fascination for the artist, has become a vessel for him to surround a central subject image with the entire landscape at it was presented during the artists initial encounter.
Tuba Oztekin Koymen is an artist and designer living in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Born in Turkey, she graduated from the Department of Graphic Design at Bilkent University (1995), later receiving a MFA in Photography and Digital imaging at the Maryland Institute College of Art (1999). Her work has been exhibited locally and internationally, including solo exhibitions at the Center of Documentary Studies at Duke University, Light Factory (North Carolina), and the Museum Center in Baku, Azerbaijan. Koymen has participated in various workshops, collaborative projects, as well as organized and assisted with exhibitions of photography and art, including the Istanbul Biennial. An Adjunct Professor of Photography at the Texas Christian University, Koymen is currently a visiting professor at Austin College in Sherman, Texas. In 5 Photographers, Koymen presents universalizing themes highlighting human commonalities regardless of race, gender, religion, and national origin. With their enigmatic quality, these haunting images draw viewers in, causing them to create meaning derived from their own experience.
Tammy McNary was raised in the Detroit area and lives in Dallas. She received a degree in Sociology and Film from SMU and later studied photography under Charles DeBus. During that time, she took over Mr. DeBus’ summer program at SMU and fell in love with teaching. For the last 11 years, she has working as a freelance art teacher in elementary, middle school, and other public community settings.
Adam Neese was raised in Grapevine, TX, halfway between Dallas and Fort Worth. His photographic works explore the relationship between memory and image; challenging the assumed notion of photograph as a factual document. Adam’s work has been exhibited throughout the US and abroad, including at The Rourke Art Museum (MN,) Louisiana Tech University, and De Fotohal (Amsterdam.) Adam holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and a Master of Fine Arts from The University of North Texas where he currently teaches photography.
Byrd Williams IV is a fourth generation photographer and is best known for his urban work in the U.S. and Europe. Byrd Williams IV has been teaching photography for 26 years and as chair, was instrumental in developing the photography program at Collin College. Williams is a published writer (Legendary Landmarks, Ortsbeschreibungen) and international artist whose work has been shown and collected by the Amon Carter Museum, Museum Fine Arts Houston, Tarrant County Court House, Stadtischen Museum Simeonstift of Trier Germany, Kunstlerhaus Schloss Balmoral of Bad Ems, Germany, and the Banque et Caisse D’epargne de Letat collection, Luxembourge. For 5 Photographers, Byrd presents Around Walls, a series of panolinear-invented spaces resembling panoramas, which employ an ideal borrowed from Picasso via David Hockney. The artist uses images that move through space rather than assuming a one-point perspective.
