Val Curry

Picture
Val Curry - Manica
Val Curry, born in March of 1978, grew up amidst the cornfields of rural Illinois. Since 1992, he has been an engaged resident of the Dallas area and recently completed his BFA in Sculpture from Texas A&M University Commerce. He was just accepted into University of Texas at Dallas' MFA program as well as the Centraltrak residency program. Val studied under Plush Gallery director, Randall Garrett, while attending Richland Community College before entering TAMU-Commerce. With an active role in the local arts community of Dallas, he has had the opportunity and pleasure of sharing his knowledge and guidance with his fellow artists coming into the art world.

For bunnies & dinosaurs, Curry creates objects that are meant to be physical markers that can navigate the viewer through a spatial time-map. These objects blur the boundaries between painting, drawing and sculpture. The work is crafted from the detritus of our society that was once cherished. Now forgotten and given a new life - used children's toys and obsolete computers fused with roots and branches become metaphors for play, communication, structure and foundation. In a post apocalyptic world the reinterpretation of value becomes a trope for the loss of innocence.
