Sibylle Bauer

Sibylle Bauer is the embodiment of a multi-cultural artist. She was born in Mexico City to German parents intent on providing her and her sister a true understanding of their adoptive culture. This translated into constant travel within Mexico, of course in a German Volkswagen Beetle. Additionally, frequent visits to Europe and to the US exposed her to the colors of diverse geographies. Her formal undergraduate and graduate studies took place in Munich and Berlin. Upon returning to Mexico, her re-encounter with the vibrancy of Mexican flora marked her artistic path, as it still does today.

In her own words:

My art begins with the inner belief that there are unexplored territories of color, light and textures in nature. My journey becomes an act of discovery: the fluid unveiling of unexpected, magical and provocative colors and patterns that emerge from nature. My fascination with this almost microscopic view of objects that surround us begins with hours of examination of the changing shapes, patterns and colors that take place as light, shade, moisture and wind move through them on any given day. As I get closer to nature, both physically with the lens of a camera, and figuratively as an act of respect and admiration, a world emerges that has become my visual territory. It is where images are born and, thus, become sensual and intriguing.

In addition to her photographic endeavors, she has developed a well established art consultancy practice which has allowed her to work with top architecture and interior design firms both in the US as well as internationally. This practice has evolved primarily in the hospitality industry, leading the art selection and commissioning for major projects such as Capella Hotel and Resort Pedregal (Los Cabos), Four Seasons Resort (Scottsdale, Arizona), Cap Juluca (Anguilla, British West Indies) among others.
