Artist Statement
Much of my work has been influenced by the power photographic images have on us as viewers. Photographs influence our perception, recollection, and reality. The images we look at or hold in our memories are constantly being examined, altered, rearranged, and deleted. Photographs are not simply documentation, but can also become an object, idea, or means of communication.
With these reconstructed glimpses, I would like the viewer to consider photography's static and temporal qualities. Each image is a construction formed from fragments or portions of pictures. I like to refer to these cuttings as "marks of interruptions." This is where I have intervened. By deleting, marking, cutting, and altering I am complicating the picture frame. Instead of preventing a picture of a record scene, I am attempting to give the viewer a puzzle in a picture form, which can be pieced together, absorbed, or left alone.
